From Storytelling
to Storyselling

Hot Type Founder and CEO Gabrielle Hart began her career in storytelling as a journalist.

She developed a keen ability to research and quickly become a subject matter expert on any topic. She asked provocative questions to draw stories out of her interview subjects and actively listened for every important detail. And she learned how to adapt her tone of voice to resonate with different demographics.

In a few short years, she helped launch an alternative newsweekly owned by the Tribune Corporation and wrote nationally syndicated features and front-page stories for its parent publication, a daily newspaper.

Writing mostly promotional arts-and-entertainment and lifestyle content, Gabrielle realized it was closely related to copywriting. So she decided to parlay her storytelling skills into storyselling for businesses.

She cut her teeth in marketing as the sole copywriter for MySpace, the leading social network and the world’s most trafficked website. There, she created sales-enablement materials that helped secure multimillion-dollar ad sponsorships from Fortune 500 companies, including Procter & Gamble, Hewlett Packard and McDonalds.

Through her experience, Gabrielle found that, while all companies need effective positioning and messaging, many don’t need or can’t support a full-time copywriter or content team. So she set out on her own to create a marketing consultancy that could more efficiently serve companies’ needs on demand — providing highly personalized service and agency-quality deliverables at a fraction of the price.

In 2009, she secured her first client and launched Hot Type, a name that's a nod to her newspaper roots.

Hot Type launched in 2009 with one client and has grown through 100% repeat business and referrals.

At Hot Type, Gabrielle and team apply journalistic instincts and more than a decade of marketing experience to help emerging and established businesses define or refine their brand identities — the foundation for all effective copywriting. Over more than a decade, we’ve helped launch brands that have developed into household names and optimized the positioning and performance of enterprise companies.

Our most rewarding work, however, has come from building longstanding relationships with our clients and supporting their ongoing and evolving content needs. The longevity of our partnerships is one of our greatest measures of success.

Our average client relationship is 3.6 years — 12% higher than the industry average.

Today, Hot Type comprises brand, marketing, copywriting, UX and design experts who are strategic, conceptual and inspired.
